Sr. Maria Linda is the most recent addition to our community. She brought many gifts: experience as a vowed religious in an apostolic congregation, English and Italian as her second and third languages, excellent skills as a seamstress and considerable amateur engineering skills. She can make almost anything work.
Most notable, however, is Sr. Maria Linda’s desire to pursue the contemplative call and to love Jesus Christ with all of her heart.
Born and educated in the Mindanao Province of the Philippines, she followed the call to religious life while in her early 20s and entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She spent her novitiate at the motherhouse in Rome, Italy and later served her community in many positions of responsibility including supervision of a retreat house in Assisi.
As time passed, Sister heard a call to a more contemplative life which would offer more time for quiet, solitude, and prayer. Through friends she learned about the Redemptoristine Monastery then in Fort Erie, Canada near Niagara Falls. She made the challenging transition to both the culture of a new country and the religious culture of a new community. Sr. Maria Linda professed first vows as a Redemptoristine in Fort Erie but God had another plan as it became apparent that the monastery could no longer sustain itself. Continuing to steadfastly respond to God’s call, she turned to our community and requested transfer. She was welcomed and has weathered the transition to yet another country and another monastic household with great faith, love and generosity. She currently serves as the head of our cape sewing department where we fill orders for the Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Sister Maria Linda professed Solemn Vows of chastity, poverty and obedience on August 11, 2012.
